GERMANY-WIDE RESEARCH STUDY
The Project:
In 2013, I was contracted by an American non-profit organization to conduct a qualitative, Germany-wide research study on the lifeworld of German teenagers. To collect data, I met with 22 focus groups (220 teenagers, 20 youth workers). The transcribed sessions were then coded and analyzed via content analysis.
The Challenge:
Find out what German teenagers think about relationships, the meaning of life, faith and religion - with the purpose to create a culturally sensitive app for German youth.
My Responsibilities:
Pre Field Work
developed questionnaire
organized and scheduled all focus groups - while ensuring that participants were part of different demographics (quota sampling by age, education, economical situation, ethnicity and location)
trained 3 staff members
oversaw the budget for incentives, supplies and travel
Field Work
traveled to various places in Germany to meet with focus groups
conducted all interviews
Post Field Work
translated all transcribed results for content analysis | German-English
put together a detailed index of culturally unique terminology
prepared the final research report in partnership with a research department
